Sister / pendant light / Ø95 × 185

Today's lights have two main purposes. The first is to facilitate ordinary daily activities. For this, you need a strong light that illuminates as much darkness as possible. The second is to purify the heart and to sanctify the place. This requires a dramatic light that transforms the darkness into a stage regardless of how strong that light may be.

The original purpose of light was not divided into two. The reason for this is that ordinary daily tasks, including "prayer" used to be acts of holiness that purify our minds and bodies. This can be seen in the simple, faith-based lifestyles of the Shakers and humble nuns. The lighting they require is generally small and modest.

Learning from them, I designed this pendant light to create a more sanctified lighting space in our living rooms and studies. What I wanted was not a strong light that would dominate the space, but a small light that would fall gently in the darkness. The combination of different shapes and orientations resembles the jet-black clothing of the convent.
