YES NO / desk light / Shade : ∅158 × 50 Arm : L635 Base : ∅80 × 200

The quiet is the thing to be most respected in a private space. What makes this desk light worth it is the quietness of its form. You might even call it an attempt to give form to "silence" itself. This approach teaches us that objects have a strange power that goes beyond mere utility to play on our emotions.

When seeking to bring quiet to a space or a form, reducing the number of structural elements may not necessarily be the right approach. Cavalier minimalism can dilute the relationship with the human beings who use the object or the other objects around it. It can produce isolation. Rather than simply trying to shave off as much as possible, it is better to focus on the nature and characteristics of each individual form, to listen to the overall rhythm and to try to find a balance. This can create a rich and highly familiar silence.

The three curves comprising the desk light express independent stances toward gravity. The thick line that extends vertically from the base bends to gravity, while the steel rod connected to the light source at the tip resists gravity. The thin wire has free rein. Curves can express many different things depending on their angles, scales and materials, and they readily accept our emotions and use them to create vivid silence.
